THE HIDDEN COST

The cost of plating has been driven up in recent years by environmental concerns. Most plating chemicals are notoriously unfriendly to the environment and the necessary pretreatment and disposal are both costly. Water rinses are required between all cleaning and plating operations. Every drop of water contaminated in those rinses has to be pretreated and ultimately disposed of at high costs.

Reporting and fees on local, state, and federal levels are both staggering and time-consuming. Liabilities are extremely high and many times, even uncountable.

Decisions impacting the environment, daily operations, process efficiencies and control measures must all be made clearly and interdependently. The rate at which regulations are changed and.or amended requires the shop owner, if he is to succeed, to possess a good sense of anticipation and prediction in making wise decisions.
